We all know more or less the story where King Saul was confronted by the Philistine army. Goliath, a gigantic, mighty warrior, challenged Israel's best warrior to the battlefield. David, who was a shepherd, decides to fight Goliath with a slingshot. David hurls a stone from his sling, hits Goliath in the center of his forehead and knocks him to the ground. Then David took Goliath's sword and cut off his head. Let us see now what we learn from this story.
1. When we trust God, He gives us the courage and helps us face any kind of difficulty. Many times life threats surpass us in size, like Goliath who was much bigger in size than David. However, when we have God on our side, in the end, we always come out victorious.
2. When David wore the armor that Saul gave him, he could not even walk. David then told Saul that this armor was inappropriate for him. He then took out the armor and decided to confront Goliath with his slingshot, something he knew very well how to use. Here we see that God teaches us to use the talents we already have. Many times, we try to adopt other people’s talents instead of asking God to help us use our own talents. Trying to be someone else instead of being yourself leads to failure. It is like David wearing inappropriate armor. Victory takes place when we are aware of our own talents.
3. We learn that we should never underestimate someone, just because the person looks weak in the eye. Every human being hides great power within himself. God teaches us to be aware of our own power and never underestimate people. Goliath underestimated David by telling him that he would give his flesh to the birds of the air and the wild beasts. However, in the end, he lost.
4. The difficulties we face make us stronger. By allowing us to face challenges in our lives, God prepares us for the mission He has for us. After this battle where David showed courage and trust in God, his ascending course began, and that is how from shepherd he became king.
5.Whoever tries to harm a person who has God's protection, the weapons he uses will turn against him. Goliath was beheaded by his own sword. The protection of God is the most powerful weapon a man can have.
