At Luke 22:7-23 we learn about the last supper of Jesus with His disciples before His crucifixion. At this farewell dinner, Christ associates His body and His blood with bread and wine. By eating bread and drinking wine, the disciples were forever united with Christ. Let us now look at the 5 truths that this last Passover meal of Jesus teaches us.
1. Christ asks us to always have Him in our hearts. Christ, through His sacrifice, is about to bridge the gap that separates us from God. He wants us to remember the eternal gift he is offering to us.
2. The blood of Christ is the seal of the New Testament. The blood of Christ that is going to flow will have the power to remove the burden of our souls and allow us to start a new covenant with God. This means that whoever is born again with the Son of God is now walking in the way of truth.
3. Christ sees in our hearts. At this dinner, Jesus reveals to his disciples that one of them will betray Him. Judas' betrayal reminds us that when we resist God's will, we become traitors of Jesus. But God knows our hearts and warns us that we cannot hide from Him. Repentance is therefore the first step so that we can become friends of Christ.
4.The hope and promise of God's kingdom. Christ tells His disciples that from now on he will not drink of this fruit of the vine again until the kingdom of God comes. This reminds us to always have our hope in Christ, so that God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, may guide us, in order for us to become inhabitants of His eternal kingdom.
5. The body and blood of Christ. By eating from the bread and drinking from the wine, the disciples were united with Christ. Whoever lets Christ dwell in him, in essence accepts the body and blood of Christ. The believer experiences the death ofthe old self and the birth of a new self. This means that the person is healed and ready to start a new beginning with Christ . Thus the believer experiences the crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ and becomes one with the Son of God. The love of Christ thus becomes the salvation of man.
