Presentation at the temple – Ambrogio Lorenzetti

A great work of the 14th century is the Presentation at the temple by the Italian painter Ambrogio Lorenzetti. This painter, who emphasizes the design and the decorative style that characterizes the Siena School, creates here a work rich in architectural elements and perspective depth. In the center of the painting, we see the Virgin Mary and the elder Simeon receiving and holding the little Jesus. On the right, we see Anna the prophetess, who recognized Jesus as the future Savior and Redeemer.

Jesus' parents brought the Holy Infant to the Temple to be circumcised, as according to the Mosaic Law. The circumcision represents the boy's dedication to God and the recognition that true power comes from God's perfection. Simeon received Christ in his arms. At the same time, he recognizes Jesus as the Messiah who came to elevate humanity and to bridge it with God. He also prophesied about the sacrifice of Christ, telling the Virgin Mary that a sword of pain would pierce her heart.

Lorenzetti realizes a work, which reminds us of the prophetic message that the Son of God is going to offer, which is the salvation of the soul and the reconciliation of man with God.
